Definition: Estimated percentage of children ages 0-17 living in households with a desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone, or other computer connected to high-speed internet service, by household English proficiency (e.g., in 2019, among California children in limited English-speaking households, 81.2% lived in households with a broadband-connected device).
Data Source: Population Reference Bureau, analysis of U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey public use microdata (Oct. 2020).
Footnote: Limited English-speaking households are those in which (i) no person age 14 or older speaks English only, and (ii) no person age 14 or older who speaks a language other than English speaks English very well. Data are for paid broadband subscriptions only. These estimates are based on a survey of the population and are subject to both sampling and nonsampling error. The notation S refers to estimates that have been suppressed because the margin of error was greater than 5 percentage points. N/A means that data are not available.
