Definition: Number of K-12 public school students suspended from school per 1,000 students, by race/ethnicity (e.g., in 2018-2020, 30.6 per 1,000 Hispanic/Latino students in California were suspended from school).
Data Source: California Dept. of Education, Suspension Data (May 2021).
Footnote: Race/ethnicity categories are mutually exclusive. Years presented comprise two school years (e.g., 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years are shown as 2018-2020). For each school year, students suspended in more than one school district within a county are counted in each district but only once at the county level, and students suspended in more than one county are counted in each county but only once in California totals. The notation S refers to data that have been suppressed because fewer than 20 students in that group were suspended from school or to protect student privacy. N/A means that data are not available.
