Definition: Estimated percentage of children ages 0-17 living in households in which the householder resides with their same-sex partner (e.g., in 2018, 0.5% of California children lived in same-sex couple households).

Footnote: Estimates are for children living in households and exclude children in group quarters and those who are householders, spouses, or unmarried partners. These estimates are based on a survey of the population and are subject to both sampling and nonsampling error. The notation S refers to estimates that have been suppressed because the margin of error was greater than 5 percentage points. N/A means that data are not available. Due to changes in survey coding related to married same-sex partners, caution should be taken when comparing data prior to 2013 with data for later years.
