Definition: Estimated percentage of children ages 0-17 living in households in which the householder resides with their same-sex partner (e.g., in 2019, 0.5% of California children lived in same-sex couple households).
Data Source: Population Reference Bureau, analysis of U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey public use microdata (Oct. 2020).
Footnote: Estimates are for children living in households and exclude children in group quarters and those who are householders, spouses, or unmarried partners. These estimates are based on a survey of the population and are subject to both sampling and nonsampling error. The notation S refers to estimates that have been suppressed because the margin of error was greater than 5 percentage points. Due to changes in survey questions and coding for same-sex couple households in 2019, caution should be taken when comparing data presented here with estimates for earlier years.
