Footnote: Children with more than one report of maltreatment in a county are counted only once. Children with reports of maltreatment in more than one county are counted in each county but only once in California totals. The notation S refers to rates that have been suppressed because there were between 1 and 10 children reported to have been abused or neglected, and to numbers and rates that have been suppressed by the California Child Welfare Indicators Project.
