Definition: Estimated percentage of adults with caregiving responsibilities for children ages 0-17, by employment status and presence of children with special health care needs (CSHCN) in the household (e.g., in Wave 4, 9.8% of California caregivers living in households with one or more CSHCN were unemployed at the time of questionnaire).

Footnote: Caregivers not in the workforce include students, retirees, permanently disabled persons, and those taking care of home or family. Children with special health care needs (CSHCN) have or are at increased risk for a chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional condition and require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children generally. The questionnaire was administered during the following periods: Nov. 9 – Dec. 11, 2020 (Wave 1); Mar. 22 – Apr. 12, 2021 (Wave 2); Jul. 8 – Jul. 27, 2021 (Wave 3); Jun. 3 – Jun. 29, 2022 (Wave 4).
