Definition: Number of Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) participants redeeming food vouchers in the month of January, by participant type (e.g., in January 2018, 548,127 California WIC participants redeemed food vouchers for children ages 1-5).
Data Source: California Dept. of Public Health, California Women, Infants and Children Program Redemption by County (Nov. 2019).
Footnote: WIC is a federally-funded program providing nutrition education, healthy food vouchers, breastfeeding support, and healthcare referrals to perinatal women and children ages 0-5. Participants who redeem food vouchers in more than one county are counted in each of the counties where vouchers are redeemed, but only once in California totals. The notation S refers to data that have been suppressed because fewer than 11 participants redeemed food vouchers or the county had fewer than 3 WIC vendors. The 'total' category does not include suppressed data. N/A means the county had no WIC vendors.
