Definition: Estimated percentage of children ages 0-17 living with and without parents or other relatives (e.g., in 2018, 63.7% of California children were in living arrangements with two parents present).
Data Source: Population Reference Bureau, analysis of U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey summary files and public use microdata (Dec. 2019).
Footnote: In households with two parents present, parents can be married or unmarried. Children in living arrangements with no parents or other relatives present include children in non-family households (e.g., non-kinship foster placements), children in group quarters, and those who are householders, spouses, or unmarried partners. These estimates are based on a survey of the population and are subject to both sampling and nonsampling error. The notation S refers to estimates that have been suppressed because the margin of error was greater than 5 percentage points. N/A means that data are not available.
